One of the outputs of the Research Plan in the year 2005 is also the launching of the mapserver (ArcIMS). This technology makes it possible to present and share maps, data, and GIS services on the internet or intranet. Through the use of the ArcIMS system, it is possible to provide access to the data to users and the public, as well as to enlarge the geographical database by many other data sources. Users can access the data and map services and use them easily together with the data from other local or internet sources. The ability of ArcIMS to use data from many sources worldwide enables a virtually unlimited growth of the geographical database.
The beta application was created for the area of Abusir using the satellite image, topographical maps on the scale 1 : 5 000 and the UTM network. The mapserver will be gradually extended by other data, both topographic and thematical.

The ArcIMS application is located at the server of the Laboratory of Geoinformatics of the UJEP.
