Mgr. Jan Turek Ph.D.

Mgr. Jan Turek Ph.D. (* 1970), český archeolog, působí v Egyptologickém ústavu Univerzity Karlovy v Praze a přednáší na Katedře archeologie na Univerzitě v Plzni. Zabývá se především rekonstrukcí společenských a genderových vztahů v pravěku, archeologií pohřbívání a obdobím eneolitu. V egyptské archeologii se věnuje především prehistorii a keramice Staré říše. Jeho dlouhodobým zájmem je období zvoncovitých pohárů v Evropě a archeologie 3. tisíciletí před Kristem ve středomoří.
Od roku 1990 uveřejnil přes dvě stě vědeckých článků v českém i zahraničním tisku, je editorem řady knih a spoluautorem významných syntéz českého pravěku.
V roce 1997 přednášel kurs o době bronzové na Cambridge University ve Velké Británii, v následujících letech dále přednášel na univerzitách v Bratislavě, Calgary, Hradci Králové, Olomouci, Sieně, Sheffieldu a Paříži (Paris 10 Nanterre), dále na Freie Universität v Berlíně, na univerzitě v New Delhi a na American University v Římě.
Vedl celou řadu rozsáhlých terénních výzkumů v České republice a od roku 2014 se pravidelně účastní expedic do Egypta (Abusír-jih) a Súdánu (Usli).
V roce 2008 byl zvolen seniorským členem rady Světového archeologického kongresu (WAC) a pracoval ve Vědecké radě WAC-7 v Jordánsku. V Plzni 2013 byl tajemníkem Vědecké rady kongresu - 19. Výročního setkání Evropské asociace archeologů (EAA). Společně s Cristóbalem Gnecco (Kolumbie) je vedoucím redaktorem světového časopisu Archaeologies (Journal of the World Archaeological Congress (Springer U.S.A, ISSN 1555-8622).

Vzdělání, stáže stipendia
Studoval archeologii na Karlově univerzitě v Praze a na univerzitách v Sheffieldu a Bratislavě. V roce 2007 obdržel Ian Potter fellowship, v jehož rámci přednášel na Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia.
